Wharncliffe viaduct originally constructed by the GWR in 1837 to carry the broad gauge lines from Paddington.

(later widened on the northside in 1877 by constructing an adjoining viaduct to the same design, (with broad gauge being phased out by this time) the adjoining viaduct was narrower to carry the now 'standard' gauge track)

The viaduct is 886ft long and 65ft high
and uses 8 semi-elliptical arches each spanning 70ft, supported by hollow piers (a first for railways at the time) now used also by londons largest bat colony!

Hanwell station built 1875-77 and is now a grade II listed building
